SEO and SEM – Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine Marketing

Since this blog was started, we noticed that we have not paid attention to Search Engine Optimization topic or SEO as it is known. Since SEO Optimization is a very important topic to be addressed, I hope to address our experiences and tips about SEO for the benefit of our visitors to this blog.

There are two key sections in which this topic will be addressed – Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM).

While Search Engine Optimization typically refers to the technology related changes that will be done related to a website, Search Engine Marketing covers a slightly larger scope which also includes non-technology related changes to be done to the site.

Examples of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) tasks are adding valuable content, improving the quality of the results in a natural way such as adding meta tags for better structure and organization, inbound links, improving the quality of the headers, etc.

Examples of Search Engine Marketing (SEM) tasks include all the tasks listed above plus tasks such as paid advertisements for search engine placements, paid inclusions in other websites, etc.

Though Search Engine Marketing (SEM) is a super set of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), it is ideal to start SEM by addressing the SEO tasks initially and then proceeding to other SEM specific non-SEO tasks after covering the SEO tasks.
