September 13th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Auro News, Auro Team, Web Design

This post is a part of the a series of postsĀ  about the roles and responsibilities of various positions at Auro Infotech.

Please refer to the Functional Teams at Auro Infotech post and Auro Infotech Team and Salary Structures post before reading this post, as it will help you understand where each of these roles fit in Auro Infotech.

Web designer at Auro Infotech is a member of the Design team, a team that is responsible for designing all our websites. Some of the key responsibilities are designing web 2.0 style websites, developing flash based web pages as well as flash based applications that interact with the other applications and databases.

When a web based project is approved, the design team plays a crucial role in the initial stages of the project when they are expected to deliver the static pages for the entire website – in other words develop a reusable prototype of the website. At the end of this task, the client is presented with a static website, which looks exactly how the site will look when it is finally launched. Once the client approves this, the development team gets involved in coding the entire application, using these static pages as the framework for their coding.

Some of the key concepts the design team works on are:
- Image editing using a tool such as Photoshop, GIMP, etc
- Website designing using Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc
- Web 2.0 features such as external CSS, XHTML, etc
- Good understanding and adoption of disciplined web design – checklist provided by QA team here
- Flash based designing as well as Action Script based flash programming

The junior designers are expected to have a thorough knowledge of CSS and XHTML. They should be able to work on their own while they can get assistance for the senior members of the team on advanced concepts such as latest Web 2.0 web design trends, usability considerations, etc . They will always be a part of a team, where a senior designer and/or project leader will be there to always guide them on the design related questions, task assignments, expected deliverables, delivery dates, etc.

The senior designers are expected to work independently on all the technical aspects of the server and are considered as experts in technology with a good amount of technical knowledge. They are expected to also assist the junior designers and mould them into good designers of the future. They report to the Project Leaders and some times also handle smaller projects in the capacity of a Project Leader.

The leaders in the design team are expected to manage design projects independently by interacting with the clients, set right expectations with the client, converting client’s business requirements into the end product and delivering high quality results on time. The leaders are also responsible for delivering the static pages in any web development project and get client’s approval on these pages, to proceed to the next stage.

If you are aspiring to become a designer at Auro Infotech, please ask yourself the right questions based on the information here and then it makes it easy for you and us to determine where you fit in the organisation.

Please feel free to post your thoughts here and we will make an honest attempt to address all your questions.
