Sixth Sense discussion at Auro Infotech

Mugunthan shared this link with us and we were amazed to see the invention by Pranav Mistry. He has come up with a device which can be used to identify objects and fetch its meta data easily. This concept, though primitive is an eye opener to many of us at Auro Infotech as we have not seen anything like this before. At the same time, we are able to visualize the endless opportunities such a device can bring to the world using this technology. This technology can be very useful in various industries such as health care (doctors can operate on a patient with visual reference to important images/data), aviation, finance, etc.

Watch Pattie Maes Demo of Sixth Sense by Pranav Mistry at TED

As I was watching this video, I thought that the Auro Technology Research Programme could mature one day into delivering something like this. I understand that it is far fetched dream, but dreams is what made Auro Infotech into a reality today. That is one thing that each one of us is entitled to do – as long as we have the passion to convert them into reality.

Hats off to geniuses like Pranav Mistry who motivate people like us to work harder and smarter towards making a difference in this world.

Aravind – Auro Team

Hi,

Im Aravind. Im with AuroInfotech for the past 4 years.

Here is my brief introduction:

Im born and brought-up in Chennai. I did my school life in “New Prince Mat. Hr. Sec. School”, Madipakkam, Chennai.   I am a PG graduate with M.Sc – specialization in Information Technology.  I did my Integrated PG course for 5 years at Periyar University, Salem.  I completed my Course in 2004 and started my career in CMS technologies as Junior System Administrator.  Then, in June 2005, I got the offer in AuroInfotech and I have been here till date.

As an employee of AuroInfotech (AI), I had to say about the work culture here.  In AI, we have a challenging environment. I still remember my day1 tasks at AuroInfotech. I was committed to install a open source tool “FFmpeg” in my local server. (FYI, till that date I haven’t heard of that word FFmpeg). I was feared but I challenged it myself and later on day2, I was successful in installation. About 4 years back, remember that there is not even enough documentation for FFmpeg. My commitment made it a successful one.

I had worked on many such challenging tasks and I made it successful many times.  So, AuroInfotech is the place where we can have many such challenging tasks and everyone here is committed to achieve the end goal. Many of my team members like Kandan, who has become expert in Magento design, Anitha-worked in Zencart customization, Mugunthan, Ranjith, Mukesh etc.. each one proved their specialization in different areas. Remember, they all learned and became experts in AI in a short span of time.

So, Employment in AuroInfotech, needs people who dedicate their work towards a challenging task. This is what my Administrator, Syed Hussain says. We are not recruiting experts but we recruit individuals who like to become experts.

Im going to write blogs here frequently with all technical Issues/questions we face here in AI and the steps taken to solve it. I guess this will certainly help others, also let others know what we are doing at AI.

That’s all for now

Meet the Auro Team – Mugunthan

Mugunthan is one of the most important developers in Auro Infotech Development team. He joined the team in 2007  and has been a very dependable resource from day one.

His primary skillset is in LAMP based projects and over the period of a year or so, he has picked up good business analysis skills due to which he has been directly interacting with clients on his projects.

His consistency in delivering the projects on time with high quality is the most important quality he has displayed at work. He won the ‘Star Performer of the year 2008’ award and also won the ‘ATRP Award for Feb 2009′ for his work on Integrating MPMLA administration features with Elgg Social Networking tool.

He is the only resource at Auro Infotech who comes in before 9.30am and leaves by 6.30pm. There are quite a few qualities in him which makes him a role model for all the junior staff at Auro Infotech to follow.

Mugunthan is also the first developer at Auro Infotech to focus on Facebook API. The development team and the clients can look forward to many more latest technologies and innovations under his leadership.

ATRP – Social Networking – Elgg Integration

As a part of the Auro Technology Research Program, Mugunthan won the ATRP award for February 2009 for his impressive presentation on integrating an existing administrative functionality of an existing website into the admin tool available already for Elgg.

Elgg is a social networking website tool that allows developers to customize it and integrate it into their web sites. The power of it is that it brings in existing features required for social networking website such as member login, groups, comments, activity dashboard, admin tool, etc.

Mugunthan studied the flow of the web application model for Elgg and integrated a new admin feature to manage various political parties in MPMLA, a India based website that allows people to interact with their elected representatives.

During this study, we found out the smart organization of the database elements in Elgg and came up our own custom scripts to correctly write into the right tables to duplicate the functionality of creating default groups for each party, when a new political party is added into the Elgg based System.
